Water Ice FAQ

If you're new to water ice, you're not alone — half of St. Louis hasn't met it yet.

What is Philly water ice?

Philadelphia-style water ice is a Philly-born frozen dessert: fresh fruit, water, sugar, and natural extracts churned to a smooth-but-grainy texture that's denser than shave ice and looser than sorbet. It's served with a flat scoop, eaten with a spoon, and unmistakably East Coast.

Is it the same as Italian ice?

Close cousins, not the same. Italian ice (granita) usually uses citrus oils and a coarser shaved texture. Philly water ice uses real fruit purée and a smoother churn — softer mouthfeel, brighter fruit flavor. Both are dairy-free, but the recipe lineage and texture are distinct.

Is it really vegan, gluten-free, and nut-free?

Yes. The base recipe contains zero dairy, eggs, gluten, fat, or nuts. Our truck is peanut-free, and we serve water ice from a dedicated scoop separate from any ice cream toppings to avoid cross-contact. Safe for vegan, dairy-free, gluten-free, and nut-allergy guests.

Can we book the truck for water ice only?

Absolutely. Water-ice-only events are some of our favorites — vegan weddings, allergen-conscious schools, hot summer outdoor events. Tell us your headcount and we'll size the truck to a water-ice-only menu.

Can we mix water ice with ice cream on the same booking?

Yes — and most of our weddings and corporate events do exactly that. Water ice covers your vegan, dairy-free, gluten-free, and nut-allergy guests; hand-scooped Serendipity ice cream covers everyone else. One truck, two desserts, no awkward "we'll figure out something for them" conversations.

What flavors do you carry?

Sour Apple and Pineapple are our regulars — both classic Philly flavors. We rotate seasonal flavors throughout the year (cherry, mango, blue raspberry, watermelon, lemon, and others depending on what's fresh). Tell us your event date and we'll show you the seasonal lineup.

Based in O'Fallon, rolling 50 miles in every direction. If you don't see your town, ask anyway — we say yes more than no.
